Review: Saucony Ride 8

I purchased these shoes Aug 6, 2016 since then I've logged 1,286 km. I am usually run in Brooks Pure Flow's, but ended up with this pair of Saucony as I was looking for a durable shoe for mileage.
I've been pleasantly surprised with these shoes.
The shoe is a neutral runner, with a nice balance of cushion and responsive feel.

Things I like
The fit, I wear on average a 10.5 in Brooks and these fit bang on. I've had no problems with blisters.  I usually wear Injinji socks to prevent blisters to begin with.
The wear; they have been very durable. The upper is beginning to get a couple small holes but that was around 1000k. A small portion of the sole on the left shoe came loose, I was able to fix with a small application of Gorilla Glue. No other repairs required.
With most shoes when they get around 800k you can tell they are becoming worn as they become loose. The Saucony Ride 8 have held up incredibly well.

I've worn these shoes almost 100 on paved surfaces. I have used them on a couple of occasions hiking in Maui and running on some mildly technical trails and they didn't let me down.

Things I didn't like.
Looks; I didn't initially love the look of the shoe, in the Silver/Red/Citron, But I don't buy shoes based on their looks, I buy them based on how they feel, and the Saucony Ride 8 felt pretty good.

I have noticed a small squeak, once my run is finished, but they are quiet during the run. With such a durable sole you would expect them to be loud for your foot strike but they are not notably so.

I would  recommend this shoe as an everyday runner.

Goals for 2017

5 goals for 2017

1, stay healthy

2, balance

3, run more

4, have fun

5, race

Goal 1: A couple of years ago my New Year’s resolution was to run a minimum of 5 k a day for a year. I only made it to February 1. Why? Because I couldn’t stick to the 5 k, every run I did I tried to push the pace and tried to take down multiple segments on Strava. I burnt out and required physiotherapy to repair an abductor injury.
I had a great 2016 and stayed healthy with only a couple of mild foot problems, but nothing that kept me off for any prolonged period.  2017 I want to stay in control. Am I dreaming?

Goal 2: Balance being active, and my family life. I want to run more. My daughters are becoming more active with, swimming and skating, balancing being there for them and accomplishing my goals will take more compromise on my part.

Goal 3: 2016 my running mileage was 2,438, in 2015 it was 2115. My mileage has been steadily increasing, and I feel like I’m becoming a stronger runner. For 2017 I would like to go over 3,000

Goal 4: I love running right now; it doesn’t take much of an incentive to get me out the door. I want this to continue and not get burnt out with maintaining and improving my fitness.

Goal 5: Race, like it says take part in some local races. My goals are to take part in the VI Endurance splash and Dash series, the Comox half marathon, the Cumby, and a fall race like the Finlayson Arm Trail race.

For those of you who have not signed up for an activity tracking App, I recommend adding Strava to your smartphone. Strava is a great way to track your activities work on goals and check out other runners in your community.
